Small Place, Great Atmosphere

Review:

I was walking the streets of Time Square when I was approached by a street vendor selling tickets to the New York Comedy Club. He was an aspiring comedian there trying to work his way up the ranks.

He asked me if I liked to laugh and drink, with the answer obviously being a yes. He ended up offering us tickets to go see the show, for only $10 for 2. We ended up buying them and decided to ''why not, let's give it a try''.

The club is pretty small and is on a rather empty street. The workers were friendly though and immediately when you walk in there is a bar. The stage itself is nothing more then a platform with a mic, but it has been graced by the presence of such stars as Rodney Dangerfield and Jerry Sienfield. If you're coming for looks you may want to ignore this place. It looks cheap and run down, there are just some regular bar tables and your average metal seats with cushions on them.

We had the opportunity to watch about 6 comics before the headliner, Sue Castello (of ''Last comic standing'' fame). Everyone was very talented and funny, and for only $10, it was definitely worth it.

The drinks were a little pricey. There is a two drink minimum and I had two heinikens for $7.50 each. My friend had a cap & coke for $8.50 each. Pretty expensive in the end, but it worked out and was worth the value if you think about it ($5 for admission, and $15 for drinks, so $20 for a good show and 2 drinks).

I am underage though, but they didn't card either of us. Not sure how you guys feel about that, but if you're underage and want to drink, they don't care as long as you act like you're over 21.

(the conversation between the waitress and my friend went like this: what would you like? -- cap & coke please. -- id? -- no sorry, i forgot it -- are you 21? -- yes -- okay then ... and she didn't bother to ask me for ID).

I will definitely go back when I'm in the area again.
